Located in a serene setting, The Whirlybird Compound offers comfortable and functional living spaces for its residents. The compound includes bedrooms, bathrooms, a tower gallery, a bathhouse, and even vintage campers for added charm. Artists have access to all the necessary amenities, such as a kitchen, laundry facilities, and studio space, to fully immerse themselves in their creative process. While artists are responsible for their own food and transportation, Christy and Jim provide weekly shopping trips and spontaneous cultural events, helping to enrich the residency experience.
A Commitment to Community and Culture
At The Whirlybird, artists are encouraged to give back to the community through “Community Lagniappe” – a tradition in Cajun and Creole culture that involves offering a small gift or act of service. Residents are expected to contribute to the local arts scene by hosting workshops, performances, or art shows, ensuring a meaningful exchange with the community. The Whirlybird rules are simple yet effective: no pets, no non-working partners, no indoor smoking, and no alterations to the property.
